I vaguely remember a large ice cream maker in the pantry of my childhood home. It had a big handle on the side and it was never, ever used. I expect that when my mom remodeled her kitchen after I was in college, it was disposed of.
I’ve always wanted to get an ice cream maker. I see them in the store. I pick them up. I dream of making delicious fresh ice cream for my kids. Then I remember my tiny kitchen with no storage space and I put it down, sigh, and walk away.
I was thrilled to find this recipe for Two Ingredient Ice Cream on Instructables.com. Victory! My Faithful Assistant and I tried it immediately and it was fantastic and so easy. We decided to add a little vanilla the first time we made it. Then we realized it would be a lot of fun to add some crushed Oreos. So, here is our variation of this very fun treat from Instructables. com.
Homemade Oreo Cookie Crunch Ice Cream
2 cups heavy cream
1 can 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
12 crushed Oreos
1. Whip the cream until firm-ish peaks form.
2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla and mix until combined.
3. Gently stir in the crushed Oreos.
4. Freeze for 6 hours or more.
Yum it up!
I’m not sure how this would take liquid add-ins. So if you want to add chocolate or some other syrup or liquid, try at your own risk. The chunky stuff worked great! The cream was dense enough to hold the cookie pieces suspended throughout the mixture. They didn’t sink to the bottom.
This is an excellent candidate for a DIY ice cream party. I predict there is one in my near future!
