I was very interested in learning if I was actually doing myself any good with all the smoothies. Well, the results are in. I got my lab results back from my annual physical and the news is pretty good! My HDL (good cholesterol) is up 10 points. My LDL (bad cholesterol) is down 10 points. My triglycerides are very low at 45. I didn’t make any other changes in my diet. I am eating all the same things at all my other meals. I’ve been baking, eating pasta and bread and all those other bad things we’re not supposed to do.
To celebrate my improving health, I have a new smoothie. In honor of that other fall fruit that is so often neglected but so tasty, I have a made a Spinach Pear Smoothie.
Spinach Pear Smoothie
1 cup yogurt, almond milk or some other base
1 pear, cut into chunks
A handful of spinach
A handful of ice
1. Everything goes in the blender in the order listed.
2. Blend on low, slowly increasing the speed until your smoothie reaches the desired consistency.
Feel free to throw some other fruits in here, too. Apples, banana, orange. All would be good. You could even sprinkle in a little ginger if you want to get really fancy. And if you want to knock out your daily Vitamin D and Fish Oil requirements right in your smoothie, I found both in liquid form on Amazon.
If you don’t know how much to use, please ask your doctor.
